Physiotherapy in Germany – Easy Guide
Welcome to my physiotherapy practice!
I understand that the healthcare system in Germany can be confusing, especially if you are new here. Below, I explain in simple steps how you can receive physiotherapy treatment.
Option 1: With a Doctor's Prescription (Insurance)
In Germany, physiotherapy is usually provided with a prescription from a doctor.
How it works:
Visit a doctor (GP or specialist)
Example: family doctor (Hausarzt), orthopedist, neurologist
Explain your problem
For example: back pain, neck pain, sports injury, or after surgery
Receive a prescription (“Rezept”)
The doctor decides if physiotherapy is necessary
Book an appointment with me
Bring your prescription to your first visit
Important
Public health insurance usually pays most of the cost
You may need to pay a small co-payment
Option 2: Self-Payment (No Prescription Needed)
You can also come to me without a prescription.
This is called: Self-pay (Private service)
When is this useful?
- You don’t want to wait for a doctor appointment
- You need quick help (e.g. acute pain)
- You want preventive care (massage, posture training, etc.)
How it works:
- Contact me directly
- Tell me your problem
- Book your appointment
- Pay for the treatment yourself
Schedule an Appointment
Schedule your appointment by phone or email. I prefer that you use my contact form - I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
